New Zealand Guided Fly Fishing Experiences
Fly Fishing in New Zealand
Basic Facts and General Information
-
License - You will need one. Easiest to purchase via the Fish and Game website. Depending on your plans the cheapest method is usually day licenses.
-
Time of year/Season - Our fresh water season generally goes from October to April with some exceptions. The best months are generally November through March. Those also coincide with the best time to visit New Zealand. My favorite time is Cicada hatch beginning at the end of January and roaring into February.
-
Catch and Release - It's exactly what it is and it's what we practice. I want to pass on the joy to the next angler and the angler after them. There will be no holding fish out of water for extended periods. We get our pics and we send them home quick. End of story.
-
Deposit/Payment/Cancellation - A $200 deposit is required for each day of booking. Payment can be done through PayPal. Otherwise locally through direct transfer. Then after the trip is finished full payment is required plus any costs incurred like damaged or lost equipment. Deposit is fully refundable until 1 month before booking. If you book within a month we won't worry about it.
-
Outside issues - I cannot control the weather. I've tried. Trust me. On the rare occurrence we have to cancel, we will refund 80% of your deposit. As a sign of good faith I will most likely offer you a discount on a future booking anyway. If for some reason I have to cancel because of other reasons then your full deposit will be refunded or I will try to find a substitute guide for you.
-
Healthy and Safety - Your safety is priority one. I'll have CPR certification as well as a health and safety plan in place. We'll also have a Personal Locator Beacon which will call a helicopter to come get us if we need.
