Guided Fly Fishing Experiences | What You Should Expect and What's Required
Many people have very lofty ideas of fishing in New Zealand. Often from watching youtube videos. What you don't see are the hard yards, spooky fish, and other myriad difficulties that pop up. It is truly an amazing place to fish and those videos are correct in how awesome it can be and I will do everything I can to give you that experience. You can expect me to get you a chance and increase your chances heavily. Although like any sport it's an any given Sunday type situation.
That being said I do offer a skunk day return discount. If you get skunked you can come back for a full day fishing at 50% discount. With one caveat, after the first 4 hours I'm pulling my rod out and fishing with you. That's a one time deal only though, if you get skunked again find a new guide I officially suck.

A normal day would be me picking you up very early, breakfast on the go if you want it. We'll drive to our location, gear up. I'll carry all your gear and food. You carry the rod. We'll do a lunch when you're ready. Fish until our time is up roughly, although if we're feeling it, I'm not gonna let an hour get in the way of an amazing day. We'll head back to camp or drive back and finish the day. Generally all up it's a massive day well into 12+ hours usually. Obviously it all depends on the trip you want to do.

What I need from you:

To be perfectly honest about your ability to cast. This is the game changer. I can get you on tons of fish but if you can't cast and handle your line, it's going to be a long day of serious frustration. I highly recommend you get some casting lessons or just seriously practice your presentation. If you've got the basics down I can take you from there! Lets have a chat about it if you aren't sure,

Endurance is my other key factor. My days are generally big walks in the river and back. I try my best to ease access but sometimes nothing beats a deep walk in. I do highly recommend a heli trip. It massively reduces walking and increases our chances to get on fresh fish and avoid other anglers. I make zero extra dollars on that trip. I just really enjoy them! That being said, if you have mobility issues there are options we can do it just reduces the success rates.
Wet wading, most of use here wet wad which means wearing leggings or quick dry pants, neoprene socks, and wading boots. What this means is, you get wet. It's really not so bad. However I can get you waders at $50 rental charge. But it will reduce mobility and make the day longer.
If you have your own wading boots and socks please bring them. Also remember no felt bottoms in NZ. Otherwise thats part of my service just make sure to let me know your size.
Please bring your own leggings or pants. A preferably camoflage long sleave shirt. Simms makes some really good ones. A sweat shirt and possibly some fingerless gloves. We do have many many sand flies.

If you can keep your expectations in line, I can promise you a hell of an experience.
